BIOGRAPHY

Born in New York City, Steve Abramowitz moved with his family to the Washington, DC area at the age of five. Currently a resident of Annapolis, MD, Steve has been a professional photographer for over 40 years. Early in his career he worked as a photo lab technician for the National Library of Medicine, the University of Maryland, the New York State Museum, and various commercial photo labs.  

Mr. Abramowitz became the staff photographer for the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission in 1977 and retired from that position in 2009. He devotes time to pursuing self-directed, fine art photographic projects, and he is active in the Bowie-Crofton Camera Club.

Steve  has exhibited in several galleries and museums and has participated in many juried group and invitational shows as well as one person exhibitions.  These venues include the Maryland Biennial at the Baltimore Museum of Art (1981), the College Park Aviation Museum (2001), the Delaware Agricultural Museum (1995), the National Audubon Society (2001), the Maryland Federation of Art (2002, 1994, 1993, 1984, 1983), Montpelier Cultural Arts Center (1982,1981), Strathmore Hall Arts Center (1991, 1990), and Easton Academy of the Arts (1984,1978).

Publications featuring Steve’s photography were published in “Prints Regional Design Annual” and included by curator’s invitation in the Library of Congress’ poster collection.  He is also a recipient of the Professional Photographers of America Award of Excellence, as well as a Telly Award for video production.
